Meditation & Prayer

For where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

- Matthew 18:20

Coming together to savor the practice of meditation intensifies this powerful experience, and it is wonderful spiritual practice. Meditation is the natural stilling of the mind through turning our attention away from our day to day thoughts and letting our attention become drawn back to our own spiritual essence.

Prayer helps to clarify the consciousness, making us ready to hear our own intuitive wisdom. In prayer, we claim our divine nature with confidence, clarity, and purpose.

If you've been wanting to include a new form of spiritual practice in your life, why not consider one of the many forms below?

Spiritual mind treatment is a form of affirmative prayer taught by Religious Science.  It is a process or method by which we can change our thought.  Treatment clears the thought of negation, of doubt and fear, and causes it to perceive the ever-presence of God.

Silent meditation is perhaps the most recognized form of meditation, which involves letting the mind become still. Some forms, such as Vispassana meditation, use the breath as a way to enter the silence.

Chanting is one of the best known and simplest methods of mantra meditation. A mantra is a sound formula.  Mantra translated means that which makes the mind steady. Chanting purifies the body and mind and awakens one to the experience of the inner self.

Contemplation or prayerful meditation [also known as lectio divina] involves reading a sacred verse or prayer out loud and then silently contemplating it as a form of meditation.  The Prayer of Saint Francis or the Loving Kindness Meditation are examples of verse used in meditation.

Walking meditation is simply mindful walking.  Walking slowly, in a relaxed way which induces a deep feeling of ease and a sense of connection.  Breathing consciously with each step focuses the mind and relaxes the body.

Meditation is one of the spiritual practices students learn in Science of Mind classes. RSB also hosts meditation retreats and seminars to help you deepen your own practice.
